Logistics of High-Precision Electrical Equipment Delivery

A practical guide to air freighting sensitive electronics to Kazakhstan: from packaging and MSDS to volumetric weight calculation and customs clearance.

Features of Sensitive Electronics Transportation

High-precision electrical equipment includes server stations, medical diagnostic devices, laboratory instruments, and industrial automation controllers. The main difficulty in their delivery lies in their extreme sensitivity to mechanical stress, temperature fluctuations, and electrostatic discharges. Even minor vibration or a fall from a small height can lead to factory setting failures or irreversible damage to microcircuits. KAZLOGIST.KZ specializes in the transportation of such cargo, ensuring control at every stage of the journey from the shipper to the recipient in Kazakhstan.

When planning transportation, it is important to consider that air freight is the safest method for electronics due to minimal transit time and the absence of heavy shaking typical of road or rail transport. However, the success of the delivery depends on the correct preparation of the cargo at the shipper's warehouse and qualified handling at airport terminals.

Requirements for Packaging and Cargo Protection

A standard cardboard box is not enough for high-precision equipment. KAZLOGIST.KZ recommends using multi-layer protection. Inner packaging should include anti-static bags to prevent the effects of static electricity, which can burn sensitive components. For cushioning, foam inserts, bubble wrap, or specialized foam bags that take the shape of the product are used.

Outer packaging is most often a plywood or wooden crate. It is important that the equipment is rigidly fixed inside, excluding any movement. We offer repacking and palletizing services at consolidation warehouses if the shipper's factory packaging does not meet aviation security requirements. For particularly critical equipment, the use of shock and tilt sensors (ShockWatch) is recommended, which record facts of careless handling during the loading process.

Documentation and Lithium Batteries

Most modern electronic devices are equipped with built-in or removable lithium batteries. According to IATA rules, such cargo belongs to the category of dangerous goods (DGR). For their transportation, KAZLOGIST.KZ requires a safety data sheet (MSDS/SDS), which specifies the type of batteries and their characteristics. The cargo must have appropriate marking and certified UN-packaging. Some types of powerful batteries are allowed for transportation only on cargo aircraft (CAO — Cargo Aircraft Only).

In addition to safety documents, a standard package is required for import into Kazakhstan: a commercial invoice with mandatory HS codes, a packing list with exact dimensions and weight, and a contract. We check the entire package of documents before the flight departs to avoid delays at customs in the destination airport. If the equipment requires confirmation of conformity (technical regulation certificates), these documents should also be prepared in advance.

Cost Calculation and Volumetric Weight

In air freight, the cost often depends not on the actual weight on the scale, but on the volume the box occupies in the cargo hold. Airlines use the formula: length × width × height (cm) / 6000. The resulting value is the volumetric weight in kilograms. Payment is made based on the larger of the two indicators.

For example, if you are transporting a light but bulky server rack, its chargeable weight may be two to three times its actual weight. KAZLOGIST.KZ includes a fuel surcharge, security fee, terminal handling, and airway bill (AWB) issuance in the final rate. An accurate cost calculation is only possible after providing a specification, as rates depend on the type of cargo (standard or dangerous) and the chosen route.

Delivery Timelines and Geography

KAZLOGIST.KZ organizes delivery from the world's major technology hubs. Approximate delivery times to Kazakhstan airports are: from Europe — 3–5 days, from China and Asian countries — 3–6 days, from the USA — 5–8 days. Urgent batches of spare parts can be delivered in 2–3 days subject to space availability on the nearest flights. These terms are calculated from the moment the cargo leaves the shipper's warehouse. Door-to-door delivery usually adds 1 working day to the total time.

For the transportation of oversized units, we select wide-body cargo aircraft capable of accepting cargo on special aviation pallets. If the equipment requires temperature control, thermal containers and loggers are used to record the temperature history throughout the route.
